If you watch it and blur your eyes (like doing the magic eye thing) this becomes insane. It becomes in a way 3d and in a way not. In magic eyes they normally have a flat surface as the background and then the 3d section protrudes from that. Well this looks like the flat surface. Maybe you could try a motion magic eye?

This is hypnotic. Does the gif normally run faster than and because its so big it slow it down? Or is that the original speed?

yeah, some browsers have a hard time with big gifs. especially chrome.
