Today I participated in an event in Berlin called “Public Interfacial Gesture Salon.” The show was organized by Constant Dullaart and aimed to celebrate and make public the unveiling of online art. (usually the private, unceremonious act of hitting “publish” or “share”)

This project came about during a conversation in another Google Docs drawing with Constant, Louis Doulas and myself.

I contacted a group of artists to collaborate with me in realtime on a Google Docs Drawing. The progress was projected on a screen atO’ Tannenbaum in Berlin for 30 minutes, during which time the spectators were encouraged to call out “Print,” and purchase a snapshot of the current state of the drawing.

Which, believe it or not, people did! Five unique A4 prints were sold.

At the end of the 30 minutes, the drawing was deleted. The only record of the image is the individual prints.

BUT

Luckily, one of the participants, Micah Schippa, snapped a bootleg, behind-the-scenes screenshot of the google drawing in progress, complete with our secret chats!

As far as I’m concerned, this experiment worked out great. I had a blast, worked with some of my fav artists, and got a lot of feedback for future iterations of this project.
