Borescore.org is a clone of Zuckerberg’s proto-facebook site “facemash,” only instead of rating hot Harvard girls, you rate boring instagram photos. It even uses the same ELO ranking system as the original to generate the BoreScore. The project is the logical extension of my tumblr, boringinstagramphotos.tumblr.com

What initially seems like a dumb, straight-forward question, “Which photo is more boring?” unwittingly forces the user into an aesthetic decision, forcing them to pause and assign a value on these banal, familiar images that would otherwise be passed over and lost in the infinite social stream. It’s an ideal game for multiple people; When I presented it in a gallery setting a few weeks ago, people gathered around and had long, intense (drunken) discussions as to why, say, a ceiling fan is more boring than a subway sandwich.
